Located midway between Colorado’s two largest cities--Denver and Colorado Springs--real estate in Douglas County is experiencing a boom.  Many former ranches in Douglas County are now popular urban planned communities offering Denver CO real estate in all sizes and styles.  The largest example is the community of Highlands Ranch real estate.  Castle Pines North, Castle Rock, Larkspur, Lone Tree, and Parker real estate lie entirely within the boundaries, as do portions of Aurora and Littleton along with many census-designated places such as Sedalia and Franktown.  All in all, the area presents an exciting place for a Denver CO real estate search!

Our Colorado mortgages are tailored to the professional families employed in the metropolitan area that seem to be drawn to the rural feel of the bedroom communities in Douglas County.  Adjacent counties are Jefferson County to the west, Arapahoe County to the north, Elbert County to the east, El Paso County to the southeast, and Teller County to the south.

Founded in 1861 and named for Stephen A. Douglas, the county chose the centrally located Town of Castle Rock for its county seat.  Sprinkled with Ponderosa Pine, residents are dotted over 843 square miles of unique terrain with rising mesas near the bubbling waters of Cherry Creek and Plum Creek which flow through the countryside.  There are spectacular views in every direction, commonplace for the population that now tops 260,000.

Not only views, but terrific places to explore are just down the road.  Three state parks, including Castlewood Canyon State Park, Chatfield State Park, and Roxborough State Park join the Pike National Forest as popular recreational destinations.  Adventurers and picnickers hike, bike, and horseback ride along the historic South Platte Trail, the American Discovery Trail, the Colorado Trail, the Devils Head National Recreation Trail, Highline Canal National Recreation Trail, and the Platte River Greenway National Recreation Trail.

The county's children are served by the Douglas County School District RE-1, the third-largest school district in the state, which operates traditional schools, charter schools, and option schools.  The Arapahoe Community College, the University of Colorado at Denver, the University College of the University of Denver, and the Douglas County School District partner together to offer courses at the University Center at Chaparral in Parker.

As one of the original 17 counties determined by the Colorado Territorial Legislature in 1861, the county takes its name from Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois who passed away five months before the county was created.  The county's eastern border originally extended all the way to the Kansas state border.

The County has the highest median household income of any county in the state with a median household income in the year 2000 of $82,929.  The median age was 34.  It lies in the Mountain Time Zone.
