Colorado Springs Real Estate #1 Best Big City

Colorado Springs, Colorado recently earned accolades from Money magazine as the No. 1 Best Big City in its Best Places to Live competition.  The central location in Colorado, 60 miles from Denver in El Paso County, makes living in homes in Colorado Springs easily accessible to the Colorado State Capitol as well as Rocky Mountain adventures.  Over 370,000 residents of real estate in Colorado Springs enjoy a long list of features of a modern urban area such as parks, bike trails, urban open spaces, business and commerce, theaters, and other entertainment.  Ask about our Colorado mortgages when you are ready to find your Colorado Springs home.

The tourist industry has endured over a century using prime Colorado Springs real estate.  Several high-tech businesses including computer chip manufacturers from Intel, the chip foundry IMNOS, and Hewlett-Packard are located in the city.  Much of the region's commerce stems from the large number of military installations, important national defense agencies, and the United States Air Force Academy--all bringing government jobs into the area.  In addition, there are several religious organizations and church headquarters in the city.

Perched an elevation of 6,035 feet at the base of Pikes Peak on the eastern edge of the southern Rocky Mountains, the area’s roots come from its beginnings as a resort community and mining.  During the past two decades of rapid growth, the infrastructure maxed out in many ways.  The annexation of Banning Lewis Ranch, which will add a future 175,000 people, is a major contributor.  Voters adopted a 1 percent sales tax to assist with transportation issues and established the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.  Several roadways are in the works to alleviate traffic problems.  Several transportation arteries convene in or near the city: I- 25, Hwy 16, 24, 85, 29, 83, 94, and 115.

General William Palmer founded the posh resort community in 1871 and worked hard to keep the new community alcohol free separate from the raucous saloons of the Old Colorado City mining hub.  With Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods, a public park famous for its towering red rock formations, nearby, the Antlers Hotel pampered health-savvy people in the high altitude, mineral waters, 300 days of sunshine a year, and dry climate.  Palmer eventually founded the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, an important contribution for the region.

He also granted and sold land to important civic institutions, considered one of the city's largest benefactors.   Winfield Scott Stratton of gold-rush fame maintained a humble lifestyle as benefactor in the community.  Spencer Penrose contributed much of his gold-found riches to financing the construction of the well-known landmarks such as the Broadmoor Hotel, the zoo, and the Will Rogers Shrine, and to founding charities.

Incorporating on June 19, 1886, the city developed into one of the most popular travel destinations.  It is a Home Rule Municipality and serves as the county seat.  The city lies in the Mountain Time Zone, uses 719 for its area code, 08-16000 for an FIPS code, and 0204797 GNIS feature ID.  The zip codes are 80901-80951, 80960, 80962, 80970, 80977, 80995, and 80997.  For information on real estate or mortgages for this area, contact Kelly Oberbillig of Paragon Real Estate Group LLC at Kelly@Paragon4Home.com or call (303) 946-3745.
